Why Lending Matters
SLAY AF’s zero-interest lending model is rooted in mutual aid, not charity. It’s a cycle of care: donors spark the flow, recipients repay into the pot, and that same money goes on to support someone new. Everyone becomes part of the solution — and the system sustains itself.
This model works. Nonprofits using zero-interest lending report 99.7% repayment rates, because when we’re trusted, we show up for each other. Recipients aren’t just receiving help—they’re building community power.

We Lend Because
Many LGBTQ+ people lose financial support from family after coming out.
40% of queer parents face legal costs to form their families, with nearly a third spending $5,000+ out of pocket.
Transition-related care often comes with high out-of-pocket costs and poor insurance coverage. One-third (33%) reported spending at least $10,000 out of pocket.
51% have less than $5,000 savings.
And many more reasons that inhibit the queer community from living freely, safely, with the ability to thrive!

Why SLAY Loans
Queer and trans people have always made magic out of very little — but we’ve also been systemically excluded from the financial tools and safety nets that help communities build long-term stability. One in ten report discrimination from banks and lenders. From healthcare to housing to legal, LGBTQ+ folks often face steep barriers to support, especially in regions with discriminatory laws or limited community connection.
